The Key To Getting Results From Your Backlinks

Over the past few months, I have had many people ask me a concerning question about the ineffectiveness of their SEO link building. The problem is that they are building many links, however, the effect on how they rank is actually not that great. I had trouble with this problem for quite some time myself, and when I found out that the issue was related to my backlink indexing, I was just as surprised as you probably are right now.

Here’s how it works. It doesn’t matter how much link building you do, there are only ever going to be a small number of the links that you have built that are actually found by Google, and considered when it comes to how your website ranks. What this means for you is that a large portion of the work that you actually do building links to your websites will in effect be worthless, as the return on the time spent will be nil.

To be able to solve this issue, you will need to understand a very interesting little function within the WordPress platform called “Pingbacks”. What this function does is quite simple. It listens to the web for any other websites that are linking to yours, and notifies you of these links as they appear. This occurs even before a page has been indexed in Google, which as you could understand, works very well in your favor.

So, by now, you would understand that if you create a link, and the page that the link appears on is not indexed in Google, then it will carry no weight. Sad but true. Now, we are going to look into how we can solve this problem.

An old method that I used to use is ping submission. There are many services out there, such as Pingler, that you can use to manually notify the search engines and other services of the existence of a page. That said, I have had limited success with this method, and is only ever recommended as a last resort.

The other method that I prefer is to compile these links into a custom RSS feed using Yahoo Pipes, and then submitting these feeds to RSS directories. By doing this, you will be sending a link from a page that is already indexed to a page that is not indexed already, meaning that the page can now be crawled by the search engines. This is a sure fire way to ensure that your links are going to be noticed by Google and the other search engines.

The easier approach to this method is to simply use WordPress plugins to allow this kind of functionality. A few plugins are available such as Pingback Optimizer and Backlinks Energizer, which are both extremely effective in what they do, and also result in zero extra work needing to be done in order to get those links indexed.

Of course, you can take it the next step further, and focus some link building efforts on these pages, however this is an advanced strategy that I will not go into today. The key is to ensure that all of the pages that are linking your website are indexed. The methods that I mentioned today will help increase your backlink indexing rate, so that you can be certain that your link building efforts are much more effective.
