Three Affiliate Marketing Stories You Need To Know About

Affiliate marketing is experiencing a fast upward growth as more people realize that you can make money online. So many people who don’t know any better are convinced that affiliate marketing doesn’t take much effort to succeed. While affiliate marketing can definitely make you rich, there are a few myths that need to be busted.

One of the more frequent myths circulating is that affiliate programs are all alike. But the real fact is that affiliate marketing consists of different type of formats. You can choose from Cost per Action, Cost per Sale or Cost per Click, as well as various tiered structures. These programs come under affiliate marketing but each of them performs a different job. With Cost per Action, you’re paid each time a prospect you referred completes a desired action, which could be accepting a free sample or taking up a free trial offer or just signing up with a valid email address. Cost per Sale is simply a type of program where you’re paid a commission amount for every sale you refer to a vendor. Cost per Click simply means you’re paid an amount for every click an ad on your website receives from visitors. All these programs share the same fundamental affiliate marketing principles, even though they are different. Revenue is shared with affiliates with each type, but the amount is calculated either by how many clicks, sales or leads you refer. The differences highlighted here should indicate some of the vast potential available via affiliate marketing. It’s one of the easiest ways to make money online and there is absolutely nothing that comes close to it in terms of flexibility and startup ease. However, you should try to ensure at all times that your promotional tactics adhere to the rules laid out within the affiliate program’s regulations. As long as you’re not spamming in any way, you should be good.

An affiliate marketing myth that has been rampant is that it takes a lot of time to actually maintain and take care of affiliate pages or blogs. All you have to do is update your site and readers with new content once in awhile, and that only takes a few minutes.

Let’s say you are an affiliate for a dog training ebook. In this example, you setup your posts and have everything in place, the only reason for you to update your site is if the merchant upgrades the product. Your site can almost run itself, once it is up and has content. Don’t be confused and think that you won’t have to do any work, you still have to get visitors to your site. After you build your site, getting traffic is something that comes from the outside and is separate from site maintenance. One misconception that many people believe about affiliate marketing is that it is a way to become rich quickly. Lots of affiliate marketers make this mistake because they aren’t aware of all the variables affiliate marketing involves. Yes, there are affiliate marketers who have made it big and even earned millions from their efforts. However, this didn’t happen right away. The key to their success was that they acted consistently and quickly rather than the assumption that they made their riches quickly. You need to treat affiliate marketing as you would any business. You can’t deal with it as if it is a game or a hobby and then expect to see results. It should be considered a real business and treated as such in other words you need to give it your full attention.

Another affiliate marketing myth is that you require a lot of content to make the most out of your traffic. The real fact here is that often you’ll see single pages of content are more successful than affiliate sites filled with many articles. It is actually quite simple why a one paged lander will outperform a content stuffed page; the visitor only has one targeted page to keep their attention so the affiliate has a greater chance of convincing them to buy. Whereas when you have too many links on the page leading to your other content and when you have too much content surrounding the product, you’ll end up distracting the prospect and maybe even confuse them. A well crafting product page is informative and answers a visitor’s questions, which may include, “how can I solve this problem that I’m suffering from?”

Another affiliate marketing myth is that there is just too much competition to deal with. This is false, not only is there room for current marketers but for plenty of new ones too. Even a product whose stats shows that it has a thousand affiliate is still not as competitive as you may think. Trust me, out of all of the affiliates promoting a product, only a few are making any respectable amount of commissions. It might sound unrealistic but only a few marketers may make the product owner most of his income. Basing all of your affiliate decisions on some perceived level of competition will slow down your progress.

The fact that affiliate marketing is spam is another ridiculous myth. The truth of the matter is that promoting affiliate products is a great way to make some money from commissions. The reason this myth cropped up was because there are affiliates who indulge into spamming activities, bringing bad name to the industry. The networks that run the whole affiliate system, though, are quite genuine and pay out huge commissions on a monthly basis. Quite the opposite, in fact, the networks try to limit the spam as much and possible and shut down the accounts of spammers. They have a strict anti-spam policy and employ a lot of systems to ensure it doesn’t happen.

A very harmful myth is that a market is too competitive or too hard to make money in. A large market is no harder than a smaller one and you will make far more money. In these types of markets there are enough customers for everybody, and new ones entering the market everyday. The Internet is growing with the speed of light and you have new users coming in on a regular basis. There is an almost limitless way you can enter these markets and position yourself.

These myths are irrational and doesn’t belong in the mind of any inspiring business owner.
